Kuna Arts and History Center
About
The Kuna Arts and History Center is located at 270 Orchard Avenue and was established in March of 2024. The Center looks to support arts of all kinds including the visual arts, performing arts, interactive arts, and literary arts by working with the Kuna Arts Commission to host new art exhibits featuring local and non-local artists each quarter. In conjunction with quarterly art exhibits, the Kuna Arts and History Center also features new historical exhibits using the Kuna Historical Society's collection of items, photographs, and documents. New to the Center's program is a permanent history exhibit that details of the settlement of Kuna, called "Kuna Beginnings". Behind the Center runs the Greg W. Nelson greenbelt and Indian Creek making it a scenic location.
Additionally, the Kuna Arts and History Center sits at a historically important spot in Kuna, the Indian Creek crossing of the Silver Trail which was a stage route used as a transportation highway between Silver City and Boise. Across the creek from the Center sat 15 Mile House, an important rest stop along the Silver Trail. The 15 Mile House was built next to Indian Creek and was chosen for its shallow crossing. All that remains of the house now is a volcanic rock wall structure. Later in 1882, the Oregon Short Line Railroad Company sited a work camp and depot next to 15 Mile House and Indian Creek because of the Silver Trail and source of water, and named it Kuna. This would become a railroad station that was in use from 1883-1887.
The Kuna Arts and History Center's Winter Hours are: Tuesday-Friday: 8AM-4PM, excluding holidays.
Field Trips, Tours, and Walk-throughs!
The Kuna Arts and History Center would love to host your class or group for a tour! Visitors can learn about the start of Kuna in the permanent exhibit, "Kuna Beginnings", or take a look at the rotating art exhibits that feature local artists and additional supplementary history exhibits. We have hosted fields trips of multiple school classes, home school groups, and Cub Scout troops and are happy to try and adjust tours to meet different curriculums or goals. Need a tour for children centered around art? Need a field trip with a focus on Kuna settlement? Want a walk-through of all the exhibits? Contact us today to schedule!
