City of Kuna PSA: It's Time To Fix Your Water Leaks!

Remember, November through February are the months that we use to re-calculate the Average Winter Water Usage for your sewer charges in the Spring. If you have a leaky toilet, drippy faucet, or any other plumbing issue causing high water usage, October is the month to make those repairs.

Common types of leaks found in the home are worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets, and other leaking valves. Did you know that a dripping faucet or showerhead can waste up to 30 gallons per day, a leaking toilet flapper can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day, and a running toilet (wide open flapper) can waste 4.5 gallons per minute! That’s nearly 300 gallons per hour, or 6,480 gallons of water wasted per day! 

The average household's leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year and ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day (per the U.S. EPA)
